Monongalia County Jail Search
Monongalia County jail inmate records begin with the WV Regional Jail Offender Search. The county sheriff's office does not publish a separate Monongalia jail roster, and Monongalia arrestees are normally processed through North Central Regional Jail and Correctional Facility in Greenwood. That facility is operated by the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation, not by the sheriff. The state roster is the main source for current regional-jail custody, including many people arrested by the Monongalia County Sheriff's Office, Morgantown Police Department, West Virginia State Police, WVU Police, and nearby municipal departments.
The state search should be paired with Daily Incarcerations when the arrest is new. Daily Incarcerations lets a user choose a county and view admissions by institution, while the main jail search is a name search for current regional-jail custody. WVDCR warns that public records are updated regularly but can change fast. A roster result may lag a transfer, release, court change, or data conversion. For charge history, WVDCR directs users to the court with jurisdiction, since jail data is not the official court case record.
Important: Monongalia County has no stand-alone county jail. North Central Regional Jail is the primary facility for local jail custody, while the sheriff remains the local arrest and report agency.
Use Monongalia County Records
The fastest Monongalia County inmate records path is a short search sequence. Use the jail roster for current regional-jail custody, then add the daily admissions page if the person was just arrested. If neither source confirms custody, the next step depends on the case type. A state-prison sentence moves the search to the WVDCR prison locator. A federal prison sentence moves it to the Bureau of Prisons. A federal pretrial hold may still appear at North Central because WVDCR reports federal detainees can be housed there by U.S. Marshals contract.
- Open the WVDCR offender-search hub or go straight to the regional jail offender search for current jail custody.
- Enter at least the first three letters of the person's last name. Add the first name only if it helps narrow results.
- Check Daily Incarcerations if the arrest happened today or if the name search has not yet found a fresh booking.
- Use Monongalia as the county on the daily page, then review North Central Regional Jail admissions when facility-wide booking data matters.
- Call North Central or the proper records custodian when a result is missing, unclear, or no longer online.
Do not treat a blank search as proof that a person was never arrested. The person may not be booked yet, may have bonded out, may be held under a different name spelling, or may have moved to another custody system.
Monongalia County Roster Fields
The WV Regional Jail search is narrow by design. It does not ask for a booking number, facility drop-down, or date range on the main name search. The required field is the last name, and the site says to enter at least the first three letters. That makes spelling important. Try a shorter legal last-name stem before adding more detail, then add the first name if the result set is too broad.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Options / Format Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name (Partial or Full) | Text | Yes | Enter at least the first three letters of the last name. |
| First Name (Optional) | Text | No | Use it to narrow common last names after the broad search works. |
| Search button | Button | Yes to execute | Pressing Search means the user accepts the WVDCR terms and disclaimer. |
Daily Incarcerations works differently. It uses a county selection and then displays admissions by institution. In the research capture from July 2, 2026, the North Central admissions summary showed six admissions and listed time, last name, first name, middle name, birth date, and gender. The summary table did not show charges, bond, housing, or a mugshot. A details link existed, but the text capture returned to the search form, so full details should be described as available only where the public detail page actually displays them.
Monongalia County Record Details
Public Monongalia County inmate records should be read as custody records first. They help show whether a person appears in WV regional-jail custody and may show a daily admission entry. The data can be useful for confirming a recent booking, facility, or name match, but WVDCR's own warning matters: location, release date, status, and sentencing information can change quickly and may not be complete. Court records are the better source for the filed charge, disposition, and case history.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Last Name | Required search input, partial or full, with at least the first three letters. |
| First Name | Optional search input used to narrow a common last name. |
| Institution | Daily admissions groups bookings by facility, such as North Central Regional Jail. |
| Admission Time | The daily admissions summary showed booking or admission time. |
| Name Fields | Daily admissions showed last, first, and middle name fields separately. |
| Birth Date | The daily admissions summary showed date of birth. |
| Gender | The daily admissions summary showed a gender value. |
| Mugshot | No mugshot was visible in the summary inspected. Do not assume every result has a photo. |
| Charges / Bond | Not visible in the inspected summary. Confirm through full detail pages, court records, or the clerk. |
Monongalia Jail vs Prison
A Monongalia County jail roster search is mainly for people in regional jail custody before trial, after a short jail sentence, or during a transfer period. It is not the same as the state prison locator, and it is not the same as federal custody. This distinction is critical in Monongalia County because North Central may hold local defendants from several counties and can also hold U.S. Marshals detainees under contract. A person can be physically housed at North Central while the case type, court, or sentence points somewhere else.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| Pretrial or short jail custody | WV Regional Jail Offender Search | Current regional-jail inmates after a Monongalia arrest. |
| Same-day booking | Daily Incarcerations | Recent admissions by county or institution. |
| State prison, parole, or supervision | WVDCR prison/supervision search | Active WVDCR prison, parole, or supervision cases. |
| Federal sentenced inmate | BOP Inmate Locator | Federal inmates from 1982 to present. |
| Immigration detention | ICE Online Detainee Locator | Current ICE custody or CBP custody after the listed delay period. |
WVDCR's prison locator has its own fields. It can search by offender ID, or by first and last name with at least three letters in each name field. It excludes discharged offenders, so no result may mean the person is no longer under active WVDCR custody.
Monongalia County Fallbacks
Online search is only one channel. If the Monongalia County inmate record is not found, call the facility or route the request to the right agency. North Central is the custody contact for regional-jail records and current facility rules. The Monongalia County Sheriff's Office is the local source for sheriff-generated incident reports, arrest-report questions, warrants, home confinement, and press releases. Court clerks handle court-file copies. A records request should go to the agency that actually keeps the record, not just the agency that made the arrest.

For older booking records or records not shown online, use West Virginia FOIA. A request should describe the record with reasonable specificity and be sent to the custodian. The sheriff's services and support page lists local phone routes for sheriff services, home confinement, and magistrate court. The custodian has up to five business days, not counting weekends and legal holidays, to produce records, schedule inspection, or deny the request in writing. Exemptions can apply, especially for investigative or confidential material.
Monongalia County Visit Rules
After a Monongalia County inmate record confirms North Central custody, visitation must follow the facility schedule and request process. Visits are non-contact. The inmate starts the request through the kiosk by selecting Visitation Requests, or by using NCRJ Form 5-0033 if the kiosk is not working. The request window runs from Monday morning through noon Thursday for the next week's visits. The source rules limit visits to one adult and two minor children or two adults, and a visit is usually thirty minutes.
| Day | Public Visitation Hours | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | No visitation | No public visit window listed. |
| Tuesday | 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. | Last appointment listed at 7:30 p.m. |
| Wednesday | No visitation | No public visit window listed. |
| Thursday | 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. | Last appointment listed at 12:30 p.m. |
| Friday | No visitation | No public visit window listed. |
| Saturday | No visitation | No public visit window listed. |
| Sunday | 12:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. | Last appointment listed at 5:00 p.m. |
Visitors need valid government photo ID, and children need the required birth certificate and permission documents when applicable. The rules allow searches by canine, magnetometer, x-ray, and pat search. Personal items such as purses, pocketknives, cell phones, diaper bags, watches, and coats must be left outside or secured as directed. The PDF also says no local bus service is available, so travel from Morgantown should be planned before leaving.
Records, Money, and Alerts
Monongalia County inmate records often lead to practical next steps: visit, mail, money, or notification. WVDCR banking materials list phone deposits, ConnectNetwork web deposits, the ConnectNetwork app, mailed money orders payable to GTL Financial Services, and some retail cash deposit options after the payment process is started online. The WV DCR trust form requires the inmate's full name and ID number, and it warns not to include cash, letters, photos, stamps, paper clips, staples, or extra items with a money-order deposit.
The West Virginia VINE portal is a custody-status and notification service, not a court-record database. It can still help families and victims track changes after a Monongalia County booking. The official VINE page captured for this project is shown below.
Use VINE alerts as a supplement to the jail roster and facility contact. For court dates, filed charges, copies, or disposition, the better route is the magistrate or circuit clerk.
